Premier League Mornings Live in Philadelphia
By Rich Ballezzi of the Philly Evertonians
In a massive weekend in Philly sports, Everton never shone so brightly. Premier League Mornings Live came to Philadelphia’s Dilworth Park in the midst of the Phillies first home playoff game in 11 years and the undefeated Eagles home game against their hated rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. However, it was the Premier League that took center stage on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Unsurprisingly, supporters turned out in droves to the Philly Fan Fest, especially Evertonians.
The events began on Friday evening at O’Neal’s Pub, where 1995 FA Cup winner, Graham Stuart arrived to greet supporters and participate in a Q&A, hosted by Christian Polanco, of “The Cooligans” Podcast. Graham answered questions about “The Great Escape” against Wimbledon in 1994, the 1995 FA Cup, what Everton means to him, and his thoughts on the current squad. Graham’s insights gave the supporters in attendance, especially those who began supporting Everton after Graham’s playing career was over, a link to Everton’s treasured history. This proved to strengthen their understanding and connection to our great club. After the Q&A, Graham took photos and shared pints and stories with the Blue’s in attendance. The night was a perfect beginning to an Everton packed weekend.
Saturday was the start of the Fan Fest, and Everton/Spurs was the day’s featured match. Upon arrival to Premier Mornings Live, supporters walked down the tunnel, filled with smoke and lights, and made their entry into Dilworth Park to the Premier League anthem. Just less than 50 feet away was Everton/USMNT Legend Tim Howard, working the NBC Broadcast. There were hundreds of other supporters of the Premier League, and a vast number were wearing the Blue of Everton. Evertonians spent the morning leading up to the match connecting with other blues, taking part in photo opportunities with the Premier League Trophy and other memorabilia, and enjoying themed activities and experiences. Evertonians gathered around the main stage before the match for Graham Stuart’s appearance on the NBC Broadcast. Evertonians let their voices be heard for America to see leading up to game time. We cheered and sang so loudly that I didn’t even hear a Spurs supporter until they were gifted a “penalty” in the second half. Unfortunately, Everton did not give us a goal of our own to cheer about and the lads fell to Spurs 2-0. Regardless of the result, the day was a great one.
After the match Evertonians met once again at O’Neal’s Pub to discuss the match and share some post match pints with fellow Blues. After his Premier League obligations, Graham Stuart made another appearance at the pub to give his thoughts on the match and share about his experiences in our great city and at Fan Fest. The weekend was a true statement that the connection between America and Everton is very strong and we hope that bond will continue to grow.
Up the Toffees lads ⚽☕
