A Visitors Guide to Baltimore
The following guide has been pulled together by the Baltimore Toffees:
Hello Fellow Toffees and Welcome to Baltimore!
We’re so thrilled to be hosting Everton Football Club and this amazing community of supporters. We’ve worked hard with the club to put together an enjoyable and memorable slate of events. It’s our hope to make each of you feel at home during your visit, whether you’re traveling from abroad or coming from elsewhere in the States, whether you’re in town just for Gameday or are spending a few days around Baltimore.
This guide is meant to serve as an overview of things to do, places to eat and, of course, the best spots to grab a pint. It is by no means a complete list; should you want more details or alternate suggestions, throw up a post on our social media channels – https://www.facebook.com/groups/baltimoretoffees/ or https://twitter.com/BmoreToffees.
Things to Do Around the City
- Walk around Inner Harbor and Harbor East for trendy shopping. More eclectic stores can be found in Fell’s Point, Federal Hill and Mount Vernon. For a taste of Liverpool, you can also take a tour of the historic boats moored at the Harbor
- Grab a ride on a Water Taxi for easy access to Harbor East, Federal Hill, Fells Point, Locust Point, and Fort McHenry)
- Visit Fort McHenry, now a national monument and public park where Francis Scott Key wrote the Star-Spangled Banner
- Check out the National Aquarium on the east side of the Inner Harbor
- Visit the Maryland Zoo, which is part of Druid Hill Park, the nation’s third oldest park.
- The Maryland Science Center is on the southwest side of Inner Harbor and is a great activity if you’ve got kids.
- One of the best kids’ activities you’ll find is Port Discovery Children’s Museum.
- The B&O Railroad Museum is another great spot if you’ve got train enthusiasts.
- Baseball fans, the Orioles are on the road when Everton is in town, but take a tour of Camden Yards, one of the nicest ballparks in the country. Also check out the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum to learn more about one of the greatest players of all time who was born in Charm City.
- Speaking of famous Baltimoreans, Edgar Allan Poe used to live in Baltimore and his home is now a museum.
- Art lovers, Baltimore has you covered. We’ve got the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Walters Art Museum, the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture, and our personal favorite, the eclectic American Visionary Art Museum.
- For photography buffs and nature lovers, the most picturesque views of the city can be found at Federal Hill Park, which is also a great place to get exercise.
- If you’ve got a car, Annapolis is about 40 minutes south of Baltimore and is well worth a day trip. Maryland’s capital city is home to the oldest continuously operating State House in the country and the U.S. Naval Academy.
Craft Breweries
Craft beer lovers, rejoice! Baltimore and the surrounding suburbs have more than a dozen breweries to choose from. Here’s a few of our favorites:
- Guinness Open Gate Brewery – Located about 10 minutes south of the City in Halethorpe, this is the only place outside Ireland and Africa where the iconic label is brewed. A vast selection of experimental beers are made here (the Irish stout is only brewed in Dublin), which used to be a distillery.
- Checkerspot Brewing – In the shadow of M&T Bank Stadium, this woman-owned brewery churns out consistently good beer and boasts a diverse on-tap menu.
- Diamondback Brewing – Down in Locust Point, Diamondback is known for their clean, crisp lagers and excellent wood-fired pizzas.
- Union Craft Brewing – A little farther away in North Baltimore, Union is one of Baltimore’s first craft breweries to hit it big. There’s always 20+ selections to choose from and they’re located in a former department store warehouse that also houses a coffee roaster, an ice cream factory, a distillery, a winery and more.
- The Brewer’s Art – A brewpub in a historic building with excellent food. Located in Mt. Vernon. Go to the basement bar and try the Resurrection Amber Ale,
- Ministry of Brewing – Located in a restored church on the city’s east side that dates to 1852, this is one of the nation’s most unique breweries.
